2019 - Bill Winniford
Fellow
Dow, Inc

Work Background Bill’s current job focus is on polyolefins and elastomers, acrylates, polyurethanes, and oilfield chemicals. His primary field of research is analytical separations, currently focused on comprehensive two-dimensional chromatography. Bill started with Dow Analytical Sciences in Pittsburg, California in 1984 working with Dow Agrosciences R&D and production. Along the way he also worked on projects for high performance fibers, and GENERON gas separation membranes. In 1994 he moved to Freeport to join the Analytical Sciences group working to solve problems for polyethylene, polypropylene, polyols, isocyanates, epoxy resins, polycarbonate, hydrocarbons, amines, alkanolamines, chlorine, chlorinated solvents and acrylates. Education Bill received a B.S. in Chemistry from Oregon State University in 1978 and a PhD in Analytical Chemistry from Arizona State University in 1984. Areas of Expertise and Interests Gas and liquid chromatographic techniques, multidimensional and hyphenated techniques, GC/MS, NMR, analytical pyrolysis, zone refining/fractional crystallization, catalyst characterization techniques, high speed analysis, ultrasonic and acoustic analysis, chemometrics, odor and color analysis, leadership development, metrics for measuring R&D performance, new business exploration, sensors for point of use measurement.
