Abstract:
Elemental Advanced Materials (EAM) has developed and patented a molten-metal process that converts hydrocarbon feedstocks, including waste and low-value hydrocarbon streams, into hydrogen and high-value carbon nanomaterials without conventional combustion. The process is designed for continuous, scalable production and produces advanced carbon structures including carbon nano-onions (CNOs), multi-layer fullerenes, and graphene-like materials.
This presentation will introduce EAM's production technology and discuss how the unique morphology and properties of its CNOs can provide performance advantages in commercial materials. Particular attention will be given to applications in lubricants and greases, polymers and resins, composites, concrete and cementitious materials, and energy-storage systems.
The presentation will examine how CNO characteristics—including their multi-layer fullerene structure, surface morphology, thermal and electrical conductivity, thermal stability, chemical resistance, and tribological properties—can be exploited to improve material performance. EAM will also discuss lessons learned in dispersing and incorporating CNOs into commercial materials and the importance of scalable, cost-effective carbon nanomaterial production in moving advanced carbons from laboratory research into industrial applications.
